Scotiabank/Habitat Build a Home Promotion

Georgetown, July 18, 2013 – On Saturday, July 13, there was a hive of activity at Hope, East Coast Demerara as 13 Scotiabankers spent over 70 hours total helping to complete the home of Amanda Anthony, under the Scotiabank/Habitat Build a Home promotion.

Anthony, a widowed mother of two with a disability, is the first beneficiary under this partnership that involves Habitat Guyana, the bank’s customers and employees, the public and other stakeholders under the Scotiabank Community Program.

Through this promotion, Scotiabank will donate to Habitat for Humanity Guyana Inc. a percentage of the value of Scotia Plan Loans, Auto Loans, and Mortgages applied for and disbursed between March 1, 2013 and October 31, 2013 to build Anthony’s home.

As of June, over $750,000.00 has been raised through Scotiabank and private donations towards the project. On Saturday July 20, about 17 Scotiabankers from the Carmichael Street branch are expected to volunteer to complete painting the home.

Eligible customers will also get a chance to win gift certificates for loan instalments, jewelry, hardware, spa treatments, groceries, electronics, and clothing by entering into quarterly draws. At the time of disbursing the loan proceeds, customers will receive entry coupons commensurate with the amount of the disbursement. The second draw is scheduled for Friday September 13, 2013 at the Carmichael Street branch from 11:00 hours.

Should anyone wish to make a donation towards building the home for Anthony without taking a loan, they can do so directly to Habitat for Humanity Guyana. If the target is reached before the promotion ends, Habitat will identify another beneficiary and the remaining donations will go towards that family.

The public is being kept informed on the funds donated via monthly print ads and press releases.
