The Scotiabank Community Programme

The Scotiabank Community Programme in Guyana unites all of our charitable efforts, allowing us to have a stronger impact on a cause we care about: helping young people. Guided by our purpose, we believe our success is inherently tied to the communities we serve. Our investment in young people is focused on having meaningful and measurable impact on the lives of our future generations.

The Scotiabank Community Programme in Guyana is the foundation of Scotiabank's philanthropic efforts in the country and incorporates both corporate giving and employee volunteerism. Through partnerships with registered, charitable organizations, we support events and programmes in the areas of health and sports, to education, arts and culture, and the environment, as well as by helping the underprivileged, all to ensure that young persons have access to opportunities to realize their full potential.

The Programme is an important element of Scotiabank Group's commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility.

Supporting young women and girls.

Girl Guides Association

Through a collaboration with the Guyana Girl Guides Association (GGGA), Scotiabank hopes to help provide opportunities for girls to realise their full potential. Seventy (70) girls and young women, ages 16 – 25 from under resourced Regions, are being equipped with skills needed to support their transition from high school to tertiary education and the world of work. This initiative provides them with with socio-emotional, life and living skills necessary for navigating higher education and the employment. Key activities of the programme include empowerment, debunking gender biases, developing confidence and self-esteem, providing access to jobs and institutions, and pairing girls with mentors.

Equipping young people with construction skills. 

Habitat for Humanity

Scotiabank has supported a youth focused skills training programme facilitated by Habitat for Humanity for persons ages 16-30 years. Participants are benefitting from Construction Technology and Disaster Risk Reduction Training.

The Construction Technology Training (CTT) course, introduces participants to important theoretical aspects of construction, covering aspects such as understanding structural and architectural drawings, health and safety, concrete technology, foundations and walls. The practical aspect of the course will aim to develop dexterity through on-site sessions, where participants physically engage in core construction areas of building set out, block laying, plastering and wooden roof construction, giving each participant an immersive experience in the field of construction.

The Disaster Risk Reduction Training is aimed at increasing the knowledge and awareness of disasters, the importance of preparedness and the role it plays in the preservation life and property in the event of a disaster.
