Why is my bank account no longer offered? How does this change affect me?
Scotiabank is always offering new accounts in order to meet the evolving needs of our customers. Rest assured, if you have an existing account with Scotiabank, you can continue to use it as you have always done.
You are also free to switch to one of our new accounts if one of them better meets your needs. Just speak to a Scotiabank representative, they will be happy to help you.
What is the difference between Everyday Bank Accounts and Savings Accounts?
Everyday Bank Accounts help you take care of your daily banking needs, such as making withdrawals, deposits, and transfers, paying bills, making debit purchases, and writing cheques. Overdraft Protection is also available to help manage your monthly cash flow. You can bank any way you want; in-branch, at ATMs, online, or through Telephone and Mobile Banking.
Savings Accounts help you save for your goals, such as a new home, a car, or your children’s education. These accounts pay you interest at a competitive rate so your savings can grow. When you save regularly in one of these accounts through an Automatic Savings Plan, you can also receive bonus interest on your contributions.
Can I pay my bills through my Everyday Bank Accounts?
Absolutely. You can choose to pay your bills at a branch, through an ATM, online, or via Telephone or Mobile Banking.
What is Electronic Banking?
Electronic Banking (also known as Self-Service Banking) allows customers to bank through the Internet, Point of Sale (POS), Automated Teller Machine (ATM), and Mobile Banking.
Our Electronic Access Account gives you unlimited electronic banking transactions for one low monthly fee. You only pay a fee if and when you visit a teller at the branch or write a cheque.

Interest on our Savings Account is calculated based on the daily closing balance in your account and is paid monthly. For further enquiries about specific interest rates, contact your local Scotiabank branch.

What is an ASP/SSRP?
An Automatic Savings Plan (ASP) is a way to steadily grow your savings over time. It allows you to ‘pay yourself first’. Through the ASP, a set amount is transferred at selected dates to your destination account. There is no charge to set up an ASP on a Scotiabank account and the amount of the ASP contributions can be changed at any time. Read more about our Automatic Savings Plan.
The Scotiabank Savings Reward Plan (SSRP) rewards customers with bonus interest when they save regularly through an ASP. The bonus interest is based on your ASP contributions over a one-year term; this is over and above our already competitive rate of interest earned on the account. For the Scotiabank Be Money Plan, what classifies as proof of registration?
If you are a student who is enrolled or registered in a post secondary education programme, the monthly fee for your Scotiabank Be Money Plan will be waived for up to three years.
Proof of registration/enrolment must be provided at the time the account is being opened. This can include an official letter of acceptance into the programme, or a copy of a student’s timetable showing they are enrolled at the institution (including the name of the institution and student’s name).
